DUBAI – Higher Committee of Human Fraternity (HCHF)Secretary-General Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam and United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammedmet in Dubai on Saturday to discuss shared areas of interest and potential collaboration between their organizations, particularly on efforts to advance women’s empowerment and rights,and combatting Islamophobia around the world.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed acknowledged the true importance of the work of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity and its admirable mission to put into action the values of the historic Document on Human Fraternity, co-signed in 2019 by His Eminence Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Professor Ahmed Al-Tayeb and His Holiness Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and patron of human fraternity.
Deputy Secretary-General Mohammed and Secretary-General Abdelsalam stressed the extraordinariness of the example of human fraternity that Pope Francis and the Grand Imam have presented to the world with their partnership andhighlighted how the Pope and Grand Imam have shown the positive impact religious leaders can have when they come together for the common good.
For his part, Judge Abdelsalam commended the wise leadership of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and his efforts to achieve world peace, stressing that the efforts are appreciated and supported by the HCHF. Judge Abdelsalam also praised the great efforts of Deputy Secretary-General Mohammed on her influential leadership, especially in her role as chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG), a high-level mechanismguiding, supporting, and overseeing the coordination of development operations in 162 countries and territories.
“Your work is advancing the values of human fraternity and spearheading global cooperation and solidarity during a time when our world is in desperate need of fraternity, cooperation, and solidarity,” said Judge Abdelsalam, adding that the HCHF supports the UNSDG agenda and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
The meeting between Deputy Secretary-General Mohammed and Secretary-General Abdelsalam came one month after UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the initiatives of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, during a meeting with HCHF members at UN headquarters in New York.
